As a young man, Mr. Standau worked for the railroad; but had a lifelong interest with trains. He was contented to be outdoors--coaching or watching baseball, camping, picnics at the park; gardening, working with Scouts and family youngsters to guide them to grow up with his same love for God's earth.
A remarkable family man--he lived with devotion to his wife and children and their families. "Bill" could join any family board or card game. Also, a checkers champion, he knew all the 'ol cowboy tunes, and watched "The Three Stooges" with his kids. Always a fan for baseball, you'd see both "Ken" and "Katie" (his wife) at Lawrence Dumont Stadium, WSU Shocker field, and Westside Athletic Fields in Wichita...the lawnchair cheer section.
Survived by his daughter, Lynda Sasovetz of Wichita; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
