Thomas Bourn
May 31, 1945 – February 19, 2025
Tom Bourn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 19, 2025. He was born in Newton, KS on May 31, 1945 to Edna and Webster Bourn.
Tom married Elsie Johnson on July 31, 1965. They were married for 51 years. Together, they shared a life full of joy and love. Tom and Elsie raised two beautiful daughters Becky and Wendy. He was a proud and loving grandfather to four grandchildren Andrew, Emily, Michael, and Courtney.
Tom was a graduate of Wichita State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Tom was a dedicated and decorated member of the Wichita Fire Department where he retired as a Captain. Following many years of service with the Wichita Fire Department, Tom served the community of Mulvane as a police officer. After retiring from police work, Tom finished his long career in security. A man of many talents, Tom also owned and operated a tree trimming business.
Tom was an avid reader, a historian, a collector of fine artifacts, and a bee keeper. Tom had such a full and interesting life he was portrayed on Hatterbergs people, a local TV program.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Bourn, his parents, and his brother Dick Bourn.
Survivors include sister Judy Dumas and her husband Jerry Dumas. Daughter Becky Nahr and her husband Fred Nahr. Daughter Wendy Catt. Grandchildren Andrew Nahr with fiancée Rachel Ward. Emily Sullivan and her husband Shane Sullivan. Michael Catt. Courtney Lindsey and her husband Quinton Lindsey.
Tom will be remembered for his hard work ethic and leadership skills. Tom dedicated his life to his wife Elsie, and family who dearly loved him.
Services will be held at Old Mission Mortuary (3424 East 21st Street North, Wichita) on March 7th at 10am. Family visitation will be March 6th from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kansas Firefighters Museum, located at 1300 South Broadway, Wichita, Kansas.
