Wayne Lester Hubbard, born in Wichita, Kansas, August 4, 1914 or as he always said "two years after the Titanic" to parents Charles Lester Hubbard and Mary Ethel Wade, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2010.
Wayne lived his entire life in Wichita. On August 18, 1941, he and Murciel Panknin married in Pittsburg, KS. They were married 67 years at the time of her passing on March 8, 2008. Wayne and Murciel shared a wonderful life together and enjoyed among other things dancing at the Moose Club, associating with their many friends and family, and raising their two children, Steve and Nina, at 429 Garnett, their home for over 65 years. Wayne played ice hockey on the Beechcraft team in the 1940's and was a member of the Wichita Barbershop Quartet Society harmonizing with the Beechcraft Employees Club's famous "Four Men of Note" barbershop quartet. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, Albert Pike Lodge No. 303.
Wayne was a hard-working, fair man who never met a stranger. He always said "everybody's different" and because of this philosophy everyone who met Wayne liked him and thought of him as "a nice man" and that's exactly what he was...a nice man, loving husband, father and grandfather. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Murciel and daughter, Nina, and siblings Bob, Pauline and Charlotte.
Survivors include son Steve (Sandy) Centennial, Colorado; grandchildren Lisa Hubbard, Denver, Colorado; Paige and Brock Bannecker, Plano, Texas; sisters-in-law Billie VanTassel, Ozark, Missouri; Marciel Hubbard, Mesa, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed but always held close in our hearts.
