Obituary

SUE L. JANSON

1945 - 2021

On Sunday, December 26th, Sue Janson, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76. Sue was born in Denver, CO and moved to Wichita with her mother in 1948, where she lived most of her life with the exception of twelve years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sue attended Wichita Public Schools, graduating in 1963 from Wichita High School North, where she was a loyal Redskin. After graduating from Wichita State University in 1968 with degrees in Speech Therapy and Education, Sue worked with special needs children in the public school system and later tutored young children who had difficulty with speech, always being patient and delighted when a successful outcome was achieved. Sue loved to travel, especially to Colorado in the summer to escape the Kansas heat. Multiple trips to Europe were something to look forward to, especially the year she saw the Passion Play in Germany. Sue was passionate about a number of organizations she was a part of. Being a Girl Scout added so much to Sue's life from the time she was a Brownie until much later in life as a supporter of the Girl Scout Little House in Oak Park. Sue was an animal lover, especially cats, and volunteered for many years at the PALS Animal Rescue here in Wichita, helping place abandoned animals with new owners. Sue was a member of the National Sorority of Kappa Delta Pi, a professional organization of women in the field of education. Sue enjoyed the challenge and responsibility of molding and shaping the lives of young women in the community. Sue was active in the Ovarian Cancer Research Organization, whose mission is to save lives through prevention and improve the quality of life for survivors. Sue delighted in singing in the church choir, having minored in music during her college years. Sue also supported Vietnam Veterans of America and the USO as her husband served in the United States Navy. Sue will be remembered for her bright smile and giving heart and always having a kind word to say to those she met. She never complained about much of anything, remaining a positive role model for her friends and family. The world will be a little duller without Sue to brighten the day. Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years, James, her son Robb (Janelle), the love of her life, her granddaughter Kennady, and her in-laws Dave and Michele Janson. A celebration of life will be held at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 8007 Maple, Wichita, KS 67209 on Tuesday, January 4th at eleven a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Church or PALS Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 47342, Wichita, KS 67201.
