Reuben Lowell Zepick, 94, passed away on December 15, 2014. He was born on December 30, 1919, on a farm outside Nokomis, Saskatchewan, Canada, the 11th of 13 children born to German-Russian immigrants. Though a child of the drought-stricken Great Depression, he grew into a young man of optimism and faith. During World War II, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1940-1945, patrolling the North Atlantic to disable mines and detect and destroy German submarines. After the war, he enrolled as a part time student in Regina Bible Institute, participating in the school's music ministry, and meeting his future wife, Lena Ehnisz of Burstall, Saskatchewan. They wed in 1948, and Reuben enrolled in the University of Saskatchewan, receiving a bachelor's degree in education and, several years later, a bachelor of arts. For 19 years, he served as both a teacher and a principal in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In 1967, he entered the ministry, enrolled in Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois, served as a student-pastor in rural Illinois, and received his Masters of Divinity Degree in 1970. He returned to Canada to pastor Richmond Park Evangelical Church in Edmonton, Alberta, and then in 1976, returned to the Midwest, to pastor for 20 years in the Northern Conference of the Indiana United Methodist Church. In 1986, he retired, moving to Wichita, Kansas, where he served for more than a decade as a part-time pastor at Epworth United Methodist Church. During full retirement, he volunteered for United Methodist Social services. In 2011, he and Lena moved to Sedgwick Plaza, where she remains. Those who who knew him treasured his musical gifts, humor, wisdom, and compassion. He was predeceased by his parents, William Henry and Ernestine (Lemke) Zepik, 11 siblings and 1 grandson. He is survived by Lena, his wife of 66 years, his sister Stella Kuly, and his three sons, Lyle (Debi), Dean (Debbie), and Kent (Rebecca), daughter-in -law Carolyn Zepick, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
