Max M. Amos passed to be with the Lord and reunited with his beloved wife Nancy Park Amos on December 21, 2010.
Max was born on 13 March 1917 and lived much of his young life on the farm in and around Malvern, Iowa. His father was a high school teacher and traveled throughout the Midwest during Max's formative years. Later Max and his mother settled in Wichita where he graduated from East High School in 1935.
He was fascinated with aviation and flew his first flight in 1936 in a Corbin Baby Ace which he acquired by trading his Indian Motorcycle and some cash. From that time he was engaged in the aviation industry both at Cessna Aircraft and then later with the Boeing Aircraft Company. He also flew many flights for private contractors converting military aircraft from WW II to civilian use including the P-38. During his career at the Boeing Company he was fundamentally involved in the production of most of Boeing's flagship aircraft up to and including the 747.
Growing up on a farm resulted in Max having a great appreciation for the outdoors and he was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. Frequent trips to the Colorado Rockies hunting and vacationing were a favorite pastime with both friends and family. But perhaps he most enjoyed the camaraderie of hunting with his friends here in Kansas, sitting around a campfire sharing stories of previous and current adventures in the field.
He met and married Nancy Park who was well known in Wichita for her work with Community Theatre and thru that union grew an appreciation for the arts.
Max leaves behind two children, Stephen and Scott, his daughters-in-law, Paula and Judy; grandchildren, Rebecca, Kevin, Brian and Brandon and great-grandchildren, Grace and Kieran, and sister-in-law Carolyn Park Isham.
Services to be announced.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Kansas.
