Obituary

Marlene Ann Marshall passed away June 12, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born January 16, 1934, in Oakland, Nebraska. She was the only child of Walter and Alma Olson of rural Lyons, Nebraska. She was baptized in the Swaburg Lutheran Church near Uehling, Nebraska. She attended a country elementary school and graduated from Lyons, Nebraska High School in 1951. She attended summer school at Wayne State Teacher's College, in Wayne Nebraska, then taught at a country elementary school during the school year 1951 to 1952. Following a summer vacation she did office work in Fremont, Nebraska. She married Charles Vossberg of West Point, Nebraska in 1954. To this union was born two daughters, Barbara and Brenda. In 1959 the family moved to Wichita, Kansas. Later they divorced and Marlene married Charles Marshall in 1965. He was a widower with two children, Rita age 10 and a married son Leon with wife Gloria and infant son Larry. Marlene started working for Hancock Fabrics when it opened in Wichita, February of 1971. She continued to work there until 2006 when she retired. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church since 1960.

Proceeding her in death were her parents, Walter and Alma Olson (Swanson), two husbands; Charles Vossberg and Charles Marshall, stepson Leon Marshall and granddaughter Laurie Marshall.

Survivors include daughter Barbara and husband Robert Ohmie, daughter Brenda and husband Steve Ratliff and stepdaughter Rita and husband Craig Fabin. Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren; Matthew Ohmie and wife Jenny, Nathan Ohmie, wife Lyndsay and children Kingston and Ariston, Charissa, husband Jake Morrisette and son Miles, Rose, husband Ben Crow and children Wyatt, Lyla and Micah, Riley Ratliff and wife Ashley, Andrew Fabin and wife Christine, Kristin, husband Rishabh Gupta and children Arya and Krish, and additional children and grandchildren of the Leon Marshall family.

Her hobbies included collecting turtles, watching the soap opera "As the World Turns" since 1956 (until it went off the air), sewing, bowling and reading.

She entered Presbyterian Manor in April of 2022, in the memory care unit. On June 6, 2024, she was moved to long-term care. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, God took her to her heavenly home.
