Obituary

Marilyn McNeal, age 92, passed away peacefully at New Life Home Plus on July 3, 2026.

Marilyn was born on February 23, 1934 in Hays, Kansas to Charlie and Harriett (Ludwig) Cerrow. She was an only child. Marilyn graduated from Plainville High School in 1951.

After graduating, Marilyn worked in the Plainville telephone office for five years. During that time, she sadly lost her father Charlie to a heart attack. She also met her future husband Gilbert A. (Mac) McNeal, Jr. They were married August 3rd, 1955 at Plainville Christian Church, and then moved to Wichita, KS where Mac had a job at Cessna Aircraft. Marilyn became a stepmother to Mac’s three children. She loved and treated them as her own. In 1957, they welcomed their daughter Janice and the family was complete.

Marilyn was a woman of deep faith. She and her family became members of Woodlawn Christian Church (now known as Countryside Christian Church). She taught Sunday School, helped with VBS, was a member of the Dorcas Circle, and her and Mac would go calling on visitors to the church. For a time, Marilyn was also a member of Town and Country Christian Church where she was an active member and continued to serve the Lord. She later rejoined Countryside Christian Church. Over the years, she enjoyed going to Sunday School class, working at the reception desk, and was on the prayer chain committee.

Marilyn loved to cook, sew, crochet and knit. She also enjoyed going on bus tour trips with Mac, and kept detailed journals of her travels. Marilyn also shared her love and kindness to her grandchildren, the neighborhood kids and their children, and of course her “Schnauzer Kids” who she loved completely.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mac, her son Gary McNeal, her daughter Sandy Armstrong, and her grandson Shaun. She is survived by her daughters, Janice McNeal of Wichita, KS and Barbara Yandell of Savannah, GA; 14 grandchildren; and a number of great and great great grandchildren.

The service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2026 at Countryside Christian Church, 1919 S. Rock Rd, Wichita, KS. There will be a visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service, Memorials have been established with The Alzheimer and The American Heart Associations in care of Old Mission Funeral Home, 3424 E. 21st St N, Wichita, KS 67208.
