Lois Jane Mitchell Sumpter, was born on August 2 1933 and peacefully went home
to be with the Lord on Monday, May 24 2021 at her home surrounded by her
family.
Lois Sumpter was preceded in death by her husband David Sumpter, Her parents,
Charles and Helen Mitchel and two brothers Roy Mitchell and James Mitchell. Lois
is survived by her 4 children: David Michael Sumpter (Mary Jo); Kathy Wallace;
Dorothy Kralicek (Kevin); and Vernon Sumpter (Diane) all of Wichita. Her beloved
sisters Doris Myers of Paducah KY.
Lois were blessed with 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Lois was born in Six Mile Township, Illinois where she lived on the family farm with
her family until she turned 17 when she moved to Chicago with her sister Doris for
several years.
Lois traveled by train by herself to Wichita Kansas in 1955 to care for her brother's
new daughter and while there she met the love of her life, LeRoy Sumpter, and
they married on January 22nd 1955.
They settled in Wichita Kansas where they raised their family until they retired.
After retirement they moved to Woodland Shores Oklahoma at Grand Lake for 10
years. Then returned to their home in Wichita for the remainder of their life.
Lois was a strong, determined woman who never let adversity or hardships get her
down. She was a loving mother, always putting her children's needs above her
own. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crocheting in her later years.
Generously sharing the fruits of her labors with friends and family. All she asked
for was that they pay it forward.
Lois will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Graveside service will be at the Winfield Veterans Memorial Cemetery
