Leonard Gentry Jr. also known as "Gentry", "Brother", and "Uncle Leonard" was born in Okmulgee, OK on January 12,1944 to Leonard Gentry Sr. and Dorothy McCowen. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81 on January 5, 2026 in Wichita, KS.
Gentry attended Wichita East High School and from there enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1962-1966 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. In 1966 after returning from the U.S. military, Gentry built a long and loyal career at Beech Aircraft—later Raytheon—where he worked as a painter and mechanic. He retired in 2007 after 41 years of dedicated service to the company.
Gentry enjoyed hunting with guns & bows, working on cars, painting, playing dominos, hanging out with the grandkids, spending time with family, and listening to music especially the blues.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, Leonard and Dorothy; daughter, Simone: son, Troy; sisters, Helen, Darlene, and Susan; brother-in-law, Quinton.
Gentry leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Phyllis; daughters, Nikki (Keith), Janelle; sons, Stanley, Stephen, Qunicy, and Jeff; sisters, Doreen (Willie), LaVonzelle; brothers, Leon (Deborah), Stanley (Brenda); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Venella; sisters-in-law, Karen, Ruth; brothers-in-law, Lonnie (Latoya), Leander (Kim); and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
