Lee Austin Terrell, 90, of Wichita, KS, passed away on May 25, 2024. He was born on January 11, 1934, in Sikeston, MO.
Lee served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1972. This included tours in both Korea and Viet Nam. He retired from the Air Force to live in Poplar Bluff, MO, near extended family. He worked for the United States Post office for 10 years and then he, Anita, and son, Russell, moved to Springfield, MO. He worked at Bass Pro Shop for several years and also drove cars for an auto auction. He and Anita enjoyed traveling and growing beautiful flowers, berries, and vegetables in their gardens during their retirement. Lee moved to Wichita, KS, in 2019 where he lived the last few years of his life close to his daughter and her family.
Lee was known for his kindhearted nature, great sense of humor, his love for his family, and helping others. He had a passion for the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and gardening. He and his wife, Anita were known to share their abundance of produce from their garden with neighbors and the local food bank.
He is survived by his son, Russell Terrell (Springfield, MO) and daughter, Lori Walters and son-in-law, Craig Walters (Wichita, KS) two grand children Katie O'Donnell (Tyler O'donnell), Quentin Walters (Christina Walters), and five great grandchildren, Lucy O'donnell, Laney O'donnell, London O'Donnell, Ezra Walters, and Ellie Walters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Gladys Terrell, his three brothers, Jim Terrell (Hope Terrell), Bill Terrell (Micki Terrell), and Gene Terrell (Mary Terrell), as well as Lee's wife Anita Clayton, and his son, Neal Terrell.
Military graveside services will be held at White Chapel Klingner Cope in Springfield, MO, on Saturday, June 15 at 12:00pm.
Lee will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his love for his family, and his passion for the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
