Lawrence Michael (Larry) Rhodes passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the age of 70. He was born December 14, 1947 in Glendale, CA to Denzil and Gloria Rhodes. The family moved to Kansas before his first birthday where Larry became a proud, lifelong resident of Wichita. He attended Mead Junior High and Wichita East High School, where he was a three-sport letterman and Homecoming King, graduating in 1966. Larry attended Wichita (State) University, majoring in electrical engineering and playing baseball as a starting left handed pitcher for the Shockers.

Larry began working part-time at KG&E while in college, before he signed a six-year commitment to the Air National Guard. After Guard training he returned to full time work as an Engineer in the Wichita offices of KG&E.

On June 30, 1973, Larry married his college sweetheart, Rita Rinehart, in Ashland, KS. During his tenure at work, he returned to WSU and earned his Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, and retired from KG&E/Westar in 2001.

Larry spent his retirement years working on home projects, his vintage automobiles, traveling with Rita and cheering on the Shockers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Rita, of the home, son Shawn Rhodes, daughter-in-law, Sarah Rhodes, grandsons Hudson and Sullivan Rhodes, all of Rockwood, Ontario, Canada, brother Brian Rhodes of Wichita, and many cousins and dear friends.
