IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathryn Mae
Reedy
March 16, 1939 – July 27, 2019
Kathryn Mae Gatto Reed
Kathy was born on March 16, 1939, the only child of George Gatto, a coal miner, and Margie Gatto, a homemaker. Kathy and her parents lived on a mountain near Parsons, West Virginia. When Kathy graduated from High School, she worked for several years for the FBI in Washington, DC. She married Dwight Hoppes and had a son, Dwayne Allen Hoppes, who lives in Wichita, Kansas.
After Dwight died in 1982, Kathy married Donald G Reedy, a widower living in Wichita, Kansas. Kathy and Don lived for over 30 years on Armour Street in Wichita. During that time, they traveled extensively in North America from Alaska to Florida and from California to New Brunswick. They also traveled to exotic places like Egypt, Italy, France, Israel, Greece, Syria, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Austria, England, Scotland, and Wales.
Kathy and Don moved to independent living in Prairie Homestead, a senior adult retirement village where they lived for five years until her death on July 27, 2019.
Kathy greatly enjoyed knitting, something she began doing in childhood, and continued to do until her death, creating countless sweaters, scarfs, booties, Afghans, trivets, and seasonal decorations. Kathy volunteered over 11,000 hours of service to Wesley Medical Center Guest Services, work that also brought her much satisfaction.
