Kathryn Janette Siler McCune passed away on March 14 ^th , 2019. She was born on her grandparent's farm near Wells, KS, on July 31, 1933, to Ernest Lee and Mary Lillius McFarlane Siler. She spent her early life helping on the farm raising chickens, tending gardens, and helping with the cooking and other farm chores.  She attended Ottawa County District 62 country grade school and Bennington Kansas Schools and graduated from Salina High School in 1951.

She was awarded a Women's Residence Hall Scholarship to the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, graduating from there in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

She met George Edward McCune at KU and they were married on December 29, 1955, at Salina, KS.  She taught third grade in Atchison, KS, and El Paso, Texas, while George was stationed in the Army.  They moved to Wichita, KS, in the fall of 1957 and then Kathryn retired from teaching to raise their three children, George Ernest "Ernie", Linda Janette, and Lee Edward.

She was a homemaker, room mother, and did all the other capacities of raising children including caring for Lee Edward through seven surgeries for a bladder birth defect.  He died at the age of 9 ½   on July 30, 1971 of kidney failure.  She also did some custom sewing for a few years while Ernie and Linda were in college.  Then her priorities changed to caring for her parents for 10 years.  She enjoyed sewing for her two granddaughters when they were young.

In later life, she grew many flowers and was a member of the Wichita Area Iris Club and the Wichita Daffodil Society. She participated in the club's sales and shows and won many ribbons. Starting in about 2006, she became a caregiver again as George had heart surgery and he had many seizures to his death on March 6, 2014.  Then she helped care for Ernie thru throat cancer until his death on April 1, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, George Edward McCune, and her sons, "Ernie" George Ernest McCune and Lee Edward McCune.  She is survived by her daughter, Linda Janette McCune Woods, her husband, Douglas Tod Woods, and granddaughters, Sara Marie Woods Cicchi and Amy Nicole Woods.
