Joseph “Joe” Steven Strang, 90, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas
Joe was born in Boise, Idaho, and lived in various towns throughout Idaho’s Treasure Valley. He moved to Wichita in 1955 and made it his home. He was a devoted family man, talented artist, and avid golfer who touched many lives through his kindness and sense of humor. He retired from McCormick-Armstrong Co. after many years of dedicated work. He later devoted many years to working and playing at MacDonald Golf Course until the age of 80 years young.
A gifted artist in many mediums, Joe found joy in creating and sharing his work with others. Whether painting, drawing, or exploring new artistic projects, his creativity reflected the thoughtful and spirited person he was. He loved spending time on the golf course and cherished the friendships and memories made there throughout the years.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie Lynn Strang, and his parents, Walter H. Strang and Stella Jane Dillon.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Steven Strang, Jr. (Amy) of Whiteville, North Carolina; stepdaughters, Dyan Gillean (Mike) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Lynda Weber of Tulsa, Oklahoma; siblings, Betty Loghry of Nampa, Idaho, Mary Boice of Duncan, Oklahoma, Margery Price of Homedale, Idaho, Harry Strang (Debbie) of Nampa, Idaho, and Dorothy Wilkerson of Nampa, Idaho; grandchildren, Travis Strang of Long Beach, California, April Collins (Chris) of Angier, North Carolina, Christopher Strang (Amanda) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cole Gillean (Reina) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sara Plake (Daniel) of Dodge City, Kansas, and Kenny Weber of Wichita, Kansas; and great-grandchildren, Landon Webb, Meyli Strang, Lillian Strang, Avery Plake, and Oliver Plake.
A graveside service will be held on June 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1806 N. Oliver St., Wichita, Kansas. A gathering of family and friends will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Christ Church – Hilltop, 812 S. Oliver Ave., Wichita, Kansas.
Joe will be remembered for his quiet nature, his love of family, and a sense of humor that could catch you off guard at just the right moment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the American Heart Association.
