May 29, 1959 – September 22, 2025
Joseph "Joe" Brown was the third child born to Elixie Brown, Sr. and Carolina Brown on May 29, 1959 in Wichita, KS.
Joe was baptized at and is a member of Morning Chapel under the leadership of Pastor Darren Alford. He attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from East High where he played football in 1977. He started working at an early age and his first job was for Razooks Grocery Store located on 21st and Piatt which is where he developed his excellent customer service skills. He was a dedicated and dependable hard worker and always showed up for various career positions. He had a passion for "the perfect lawn" which he was able to exhibit by working with Nichols Lawn Service for many years. Most people knew him for his time at Walmart where he worked, of course, in the lawn and garden section and was a greeter for more than 30 years. He retired in 2023 when his health begin to fail.
He was also employed by MEFSEC Activity Center through the City of Wichita. This is where his passion for supporting and mentoring youth began. He was a coach for the Trojan Football team and did whatever he could for various little league basketball teams. Throughout his life he always found joy in mentoring youth and encouraging them. He was affectionately known as Coach Joe and although he had no children of his own, he raised and loved on hundreds of kids through sports and other mentoring opportunities.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elixie and Carolina Brown and 2 nephews, Alfred Bennett, Jr. and Braekwon Bennett.
He leaves to cherish his memory, brothers Elixie "Flex", Jr. (Rosetta) of Wichita, Ks, Isaac "Terrell" Brown of Dallas, Tx. Bonus brothers, Joe Moore (Leone), Kevin Phillips both of Wichita, Sisters Denise Brown, Lexia Brown, Chenita (John) Holmes, Patricia Brown, Diana Green all of Wichita, Kansas. Bonus sisters, Gail Jones, Wichita, KS, Cathy Wynn, Las Vegas, Nevada, special cousins Rosie McFann and Family, extended brothers Cliff Fanning, AC Cabell and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Old Mission Mortuary Friday, October 10, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00PM. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Tabernacle Bible Church at 10:00AM with visitation one hour prior.
Joe will be greatly missed but never forgotten by many.
