IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John K
Kelso
April 23, 1951 – June 28, 2024
John Kevin Kelso was born April 23, 1951 in Emporia, Kansas to John E. Kelso and Betty Jean King Kelso both proceed him in death in 2017 and 2006 respectively. John K. known as Kevin by everyone growing up until his early 30's and still by family.
Brother Christopher King Kelso born in Derby, Kansas on March 3, 1954 passed February 9, 2015. Sister Kimberly Jan Kelso now Sikorsky born April 1, 1957. John will be remembered by Kim's four daughters his nieces, twins Vanessa (who passed in 2016) and Natalie, Cassandra and Sarah. Each niece and their families totaling 10 children with another on the way. All of us have resided in Canada since 1994.
John had played baseball as a kid and injured his hip. His love turned to movies in his early teens. He and his brother Christopher made their version of Easy Rider. John loved silent movies and the stars up to current movies. He graduated from Mulvane High School in 1970.
After graduation he traveled and lived in Alaska during the pipeline construction and also in California. Once back to Wichita he called it home again. During that time he was married and divorced. He decided he preferred being single and never had any children.
John loved to read and very intelligent. Could quote about any movie fact asked.
Movies were his life long love. He had a collection of movie posters from Chaplin to Birth of a Nation. John was very proud of his collection of movies and posters.
John and his mom, Betty, would go to the yearly movie celebration of Buster Keaton held in Iola, Kansas. He had some really good friends via the movie venues. His closet friend Rex who loved motorcycles and I met in 2006 when I came to our Mom's funeral. Rex passed a few years later.
When his Mom, Betty Jean King Kelso was sick with leukemia, John the only child living in Wichita stepped up and took great care of her. John also took care of her precious dog Tootsie Too.
John passed from Parkinson's after a strong battle with it for over ten years. A very proud and strong man who could be very strongly opinionated but he also had a good heart.
All your friends and loved ones will miss you but knowing you are no longer in pain helps us in grieving for you.
I as his last living immediate family, Kimberly Jan, would like to thank everyone who helped my brother over the years in his care. From his trustees, attorney, doctors, nurses, healthcare providers who came to help him at home. Too many to name individually but are so appreciated by me and others for your care of my brother John Kevin Kelso. Thank you so much.
