John Dowdy Layne III, passed away January 28, 2025, at home in Wichita, Kansas. He was born October 26, 1945, in San Bernardino, California, to Isabel and John D. Layne II.
John was a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Computer Science in 1978. He served in the US Army on many military bases in the United States, overseas and assisting in Vietnam, Panama and Okinawa, Japan. John received many awards and commendations during his illustrious career until retiring in 1998. He also worked for Boeing aircraft company for 10 years as a computer science engineer in Seattle, Washington and Wichita, Kansas. He was also a manager at the Knight Inn where he was liked and respected. John loves his dogs, playing golf, bowling, sports cars, western movies and fine dining with his wife and family.
He is survived by his spouse, the love of his life, Vilma Rosa Layne since they were married on June 14th, 1968, in Panama City, Panama, sharing 56 years in love and friendship. John is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Badders, of Redding, California, Benjamine (Jenean) of Grawn, Michigan; children, Alejandro and Alexander Madrid of Wichita; granddaughters; great granddaughters many nieces and nephews who love him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held at Old Mission Mortuary 5-8 pm, February 20, 2025, with a service at Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 10 am, February 21, 2025. He will be buried at the Kansas Veterans cemetery in Winfield, Kansas
