Obituary

Jannette (Nelson) Carmichael was born the oldest of twins to Chester and Opal Nelson (deceased) in Salina Kansas. She had a brother, Maurice Nelson (deceased) and three sisters Jacquelyn Wilkins (deceased), Annette Clark (deceased), and Carmen Davis. Jannette graduated from Salina High School and earned her Business Certification from Brown Mackie School of Business. Jannette married William (Mike) Carmichael (deceased) in 1961. They lived in Cleveland Ohio for a brief time and returned to Salina to raise their two children, Angela (Carmichael) Sturgis and Derek A. Carmichael. Jannette worked at the Salina Country Club and later went to work for Southwestern Bell and retired from AT&T. After Jannette's retirement she filled her time fishing, making jewelry, painting and fulfilling her dream of traveling. She visited family and friends in Alaska, California, Colorado, Georgia, Texas, Maryland, New York, and Germany. Having an adventurous spirit, Jannette went white water rafting in West
Virginia, parasailing in Hawaii, walked among the alligators in Florida (they were sunning), took a train to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, floated down the Mississippi on a riverboat, ate lobsters in Maine, and tubing in Mexico just to name a few. As much as Jannette loved traveling, she slowed down after the births of her grandbabies Cree Ann Carmichael and Haley Morgan Carmichael. She spent as much time with them as she could. Her favorite pastime was taking the girls to the Botanica Gardens, Exploration Place, Sedgwick County Zoo and Braums. Jannette was known for being a woman of faith and spent time fellowshipping and sharing the Word of God. Her strong beliefs gave her the strength to face all her challenges and to be a rock for her family in their times of need. She was someone you could always depend on.

To know Jannette was to love her. She will be missed.

Jannette is survived by her children Angela (George) Sturgis and Derek Carmichael, her grandchildren Nicholas Amelse, Cree Carmichael, and Haley Carmichael,  her sister Carmen Davis, and nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Maurice Nelson, and two sisters Jacquelyn Wilkins, and Annette Clark.
