IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Starkey
January 18, 1929 – March 18, 2020
James Arley Starkey was born on January 18, 1929 to his parents: Arley and Iva (Chasteen)
Starkey. He grew up on a farm in Okemah, Oklahoma with brothers, George and Albert, and
sisters, Tinie, Frankie, and Johnnie; all have preceded him, to join the family in heaven.
Jim served in the Korean War where he was in Field Artillery Operations and Intelligent
Specialist. He earned a Bronze Star for his service.
In 1955 Jim married his life-long love, Joy Jean (Lough) Starkey. They had many wonderful
years fishing, gardening, working and raising a daughter and three sons. Jim was often busy at
his welding job with Kansas Gas Services; however, he made time to instill the love of the
outdoors and to respect the bounties it and the Lord would provide. Into his 90 th year Jim
provided vegetables to the neighborhood and family from the garden he had tended for over
50 years. He also went crappie fishing with sons and grandsons to stock the freezer with his
favorite fish.
Jim is preceded in death by Joy, their youngest son, Jason; his parents, brothers and sisters; as
well as many close friends. The remaining family carries on the teachings and interests that Jim
and Joy made part of their lives. This includes: sons, James and his wife Sherrie, Jeff and his wife
Carolyn; daughter, Jeannie; and Jim's grandchildren Ami (Darrick), Layton (Sherrise), Lindsay
(Ignacio), Amber, Jason, Victoria, also his great grand-children: Mckayla, Nathan, Lexie, Michael,
Seth, Kaden, Levi, Bryson, Casidee, Levi, and Anthony.
Due to the current global situation, a small family service will be held. To participate, please send
a card with memories of Jim to: The Starkey Family PO Box 56 Valley Falls, KS 66088.
Blessings and Best Wishes to All.
