James
Richardson
December 14, 1923 – October 27, 2018
James was born in Beggs, Creek County, Oklahoma to Edward Sr. and Hattie Bolden Richardson 14 December, 1923. He went to high school at Long Tree, Missouri. He entered the Navy at an early age and served as a Motor Machinist 2nd Class until Sept,1946. On Sept 9,1945 he married his high school sweetheart Mae Margret Williams. To this union three children were born, daughter Kathleen, sons Delbert and Richard. He worked as porter for McKay Motor Company of Wichita, Ks for 4 years. He worked as a Labor- er under a local contractor where he learned his trade in building construction from 1953 – 1971. With this early knowledge in construction he built a two bedroom home for his young family with his own hands. In 1986 he and his wife became members of Holy Saviour Catholic Church of Wichita, Ks. He has been involved with the Knights of St Peter Claver for 32 years and sang with the all male choir. He enjoyed wood crafts, fishing and loved his gardening giving most of his bounty away to family and friends. James Richardson was a artful story teller. Most of his stories were of his youth and living on the farm. Stories dealing with co-workers and work ethics. In telling his stories a little bit of history would be passed on to his family and those that would listen. James Richardson has been involved in community service for most of his adult life. He was in- strumental in getting the 17 hundred block of Wabash paved in the early 50's, served as president of L'Ouverture Elementary PTA and Isley Elementary PTA, taught adult woodworking at Mathew- son Jr. High, served on Wichita's Board of Zoning and Appeals. He participated with his sons in the Y Indian Guide Program which strengthened his already strong role of father, teacher, counse- lor and friend to his sons. He has received many awards, certificates and recognition over his life time in recognition of his community and military service James is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Mae Margret (Williams), father Edward and mother Hattie (Bolden) Richardson. Seven sisters: Moliissa, Edith, Catherine, Jane, Daisy, Irene and Delois and Six brothers Oscar, Shirley, Edward, Lloyd, JC and Winfred. James is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Larry) King of Wichita, KS, Sons Delbert (Monique) Richardson of Wichita, KS and Richard (Donna) Richardson of Roanoke, TX. 11 - Grandchildren, 23 - great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Saviour Catholic Academy. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Holy Savior Church, Knights of St Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, family, and friends.
