IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henrietta Savute
Pilcher
November 28, 1933 – April 6, 2025
Henrietta S. Pilcher, 91, passed away April 6, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born November 28, 1933 in Pittsburg, Kansas to John and Mary Savute.
The summer outdoors was Hena's oasis. Her favorite pastimes were walking through the public parks and through her children's own yards for her never ending enjoyment of the different varieties of foliage and smelling the flowers; walking along the meandering sidewalk of busy 119th street to St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church — without missing a Sunday until well into her 80's when her health would no longer allow; and riding her bicycle through park trails with one of her sons until late in life, an activity still enjoyed by some of her children today.
Hena loved her children and always was there for them, ready to give them a helping hand whenever needed. She loved visiting with her two closest friends from early childhood, Marguerite and JoAnne, all the way into older age. Hena was dedicated to walking her dog Nikki who was her furry best friend (and boy was there a lot of fur!). Hena always said she longed to see Nikki again in heaven, and was still talking about Nikki in her final days.
She cared with great love for all the flowers, trees and shrubs she planted in her yard, mostly from young transplants she gathered during her walks. ("Prices for store bought plants were too expensive and would never thrive as well as natives would," she would say.)
Hena cooked delicious breakfasts, dinners, holiday meals, breads and cinnamon rolls and other specialties that she would prepare with devotion for her children and closest friends. She also never missed her scheduled commitments volunteering at Victory in the Valley where she served comfort treats to those in need—again, until her health could no longer support her. Having a glass of red wine at the end of a long day was her favorite way to approach bedtime—even to the very end.
Hena is survived by her children Joan Relph, Joe Pilcher III, Greg Pilcher, John Pilcher, Jennifer Pilcher, Mark Pilcher, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Savute and her brother John Savute, Jr.
