Obituary

Geraldine Elizabeth Goodman, a longtime resident of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Wichita.

Geraldine Elizabeth Williams was born on February 28, 1932, in Norfolk, Virginia, to George and Mamie Williams. She was one of six children raised in Norfolk and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, and her beloved daughter, Diane.

After the loss of her mother, she went to live with her aunt Sybil Martin and other relatives. She was baptized at First Baptist Church of Norfolk, where she was a faithful member and sang in the church choir. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk.

On March 21, 1952, Geraldine married Frederick H. Goodman Jr. Together they welcomed two children, Diane Elizabeth Goodman and Marvin Dwight Goodman. During the early years of their marriage, the family moved frequently due to Frederick's military service, living in Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, and Bermuda, before returning to the United States. They eventually settled in Wichita, Kansas, to which Geraldine made her permanent home.

In 1971, the couple separated and Geraldine remained in Wichita, devoted to raising her children. She worked tirelessly to support her family, holding positions in department stores, housekeeping, and at the Bemis Bag Company. In the 1970s and 80s, she was employed with Cessna Aircraft Company, working at both the Wallace and Pawnee divisions, from which she later retired.

In her later years, Geraldine spent her time with her daughter and grandchildren, lovingly maintaining her home and yard. She cared for multiple pets, her favorites being Fifi, a Chow and Gabby, a Chihuahua.

She especially enjoyed working outdoors and found pleasure in quiet pastimes such as crossword puzzles, seek-and-find games, bingo, and penny slots.

Geraldine is survived by her late daughter Diane's children: son Dwight Goodman and his wife La'Shara, and Diane's daughter Elisha Snell. She is also survived by her son, Marvin Goodman, and his wife, Patricia. Their children Jermaine and his wife Annebelle Williams;

Stacie and her husband DeAndre Morris; Marcus Goodman, Mario Goodman with his wife Jessica and Nadya Goodman. In addition, she leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by numerous half siblings, as well as nieces and nephews.

Geraldine Goodman will be remembered as a strong, devoted, and loving mother and grandmother whose resilience, work ethic, and quiet joys left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held March 21, at 1:00pm at Paradise Baptist Church, 4401 E 17th St N, Wichita, KS 67208.
