Obituary

I was born in Newton and had 3 older siblings: a sister (13 years my senior) and two brothers (11 and 9 years older.) My father passed away when i was 2 - my mother remarried two years later. By then my siblings had left home. My mother, stepfather and I were nomads for several years, settling in Hutchinson. In college I learned my design skills and the craft of picture hanging. After graduation, I began my 20-year career as a staff artist for a small agency in Emporia, then as a grunt and gopher for an agency in New York City, where I realized my dream of TRYING to carve up the Big Apple. Then I was art director for the in-house agency of a manufacturer in Emporia and art director for ten years at an agency that worked with three of the major aircraft manufacturers (Beech, Cessna and Learjet.) The downturn of the economy in 1980 affected the aircraft industry and resulted in my being caught in the cutbacks, among many others. I was offered a position with Rand Graphics in Wichita as a part-time designer and printing salesperson. Over the 26 years i was there, I contributed my design skills but was, in fact, a lousy sales representative. I also played Santa at Rand's annual Kids Christmas Party and continued to long after my retirement until Covid shut down at the party in 2020. I'm a really nice guy, once you get to know me. I also continued to do picture hanging for my business The Hangman. During my career there I had 26 individual customers at Larksfield Place. I have discovered that 14 of them still live here at Larksfield.

I have four children by my first marriage, plus a fifth stepdaughter who tragically died in an auto accident in 1993. My wife Shirley's children by her first marriage of 49+ years to Dwyane include a cardiologist, a nurse and a dentist (a remarkable testimony to their parenting.)

My wife is Shirley A. Reusser.

I attended Hutchinson High School - graduated 1956 BA degree - Kansas State Teachers College (now Emporia State University) 1956-1961

My hobbies included Sketching (used to paint in oils and pastels) Calligraphy (more difficult these days with arthritis) Reading (haven't had time in the last few years - I hope that can change)

I was a Larksfield resident since 2021. I love people. I look forward to improving my health and well-being. I want to help my wife do the same and improve her quality of life.
