Obituary

George Houston Beyer passed away on June 11, 2015 in Wichita, KS. at the age of 80. He was born July 14, 1934 in Gridley, KS. to George Jr. and Matilda (Schif) Beyer. George retired after 32 years as a design engineer for Beech Aircraft and Raytheon Aircraft. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Craig Beyer; and a brother, Alvin Beyer. Survivors include his wife Margaret; a son, Steven Beyer of Vancouver, British Columbia; a daughter and son in law, Marcia (Steven) Hatfield of Wichita, KS; 2 grandchildren Emily and Michael Hatfield. After his 4 years in the Navy, he was a KSU graduate in 1963 with a BSEE, and jobs took him from CA to AL, finally to Wichita. Before retiring, George spent his last several years at Raytheon designing the cockpit of the Starship, making copies of his concept in his workshop at home. In Wichita, he participated with the children in Boy Scouts, 4-H, sports and music. George was a long-range dreamer. He was on the Westminster Woods Camp commission of Southern Presbytery of KS for several years and with others, developed some long-range ideas for the camp. One ministry of the church was a family organization called Mariners. The family loved to travel to meetings across the USA for local and national "cruises", making friends from coast to coast, visiting historical areas and viewing the "scenics". He had been to all 50 states, lots of time camping. A favorite project in his later years was designing and helping build a sunroom addition to the house. He loved to sit to ponder, watch TV, enjoy the sun or moon, watching it rain or snow. George was an avid woodworker and gardener. Many projects were made to give to family or neighbors. He suffered from Alzheimer's, and spent the last several years in a dementia community. Memorials have been established with Westminster Woods Camp 18487 Barber RD, Fall River KS 67047.
