IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Floyd
Hansen
August 17, 1932 – January 4, 2025
Floyd LeRoy Hansen, a devoted husband, father, and community leader, passed away peacefully at his home in Wichita, Kansas, on January 4, 2025. Born and raised in Leon, Kansas, Floyd grew up in a loving and hard-working Christian family that instilled in him the values of faith, service, and perseverance. These principles guided him throughout his life and career. Floyd dedicated much of his professional life to education, community service, and health advocacy. Initially working as part of the June Frisby Academy in Wichita, he played a pivotal role in shaping young minds. In fact, he collaborated with USD 259 to create the first educational television programs in the state, while teaching at Wichita South High School.
His commitment to social justice was evident during his tenure as Executive Director of the Wichita Human Relations Commission and as
Wichita's Coordinator for the "War on Poverty." Floyd also worked with the Foundation for the Blind and became a Certified Health Planner, founding the Health Planning Council of Southeast Kansas. His innovative leadership extended to organizing EMPAC (Employee Assistance Program) serving major Wichita corporate employers.
A man of faith, Floyd served as a pastor in Maize Kansas, and at Benton Christian Church for over 20 years. Beyond his professional and spiritual contributions, he found joy as a season ticket holder for Wichita State basketball for over 50 years! He and Marilyn also accomplished the quest of touring all of the major league baseball stadiums in the U.S. Known for his curiosity and flexibility, "Bud" enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal, Christmas markets in Scandinavia, cruising the Danube, and touring Israel & Egypt.
Locally, he enjoyed season tickets to Wichita Music Theatre. Broadway musicals were his favorites, and he could sing the lyrics to most any of them… even until right before his passing. Floyd also made lifelong friends by serving in several fraternal organizations; Downtown Lions, Optimists, Retired Professional and Business Men's Club, and The Scandinavian Society.
Floyd is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn Kay Siefkes Hansen, and his son Marcus (& Jo) Hansen, and daughter-in-law Janice Hansen (& Frank) Martinez. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Lindsay (& Shawn) Patrick, Allison (& Rich) Ronning, Scott (& Katie) Hansen, and Andrew (&Sarah) Hansen. He is also survived by nine greatgrandchildren: Grace, Cole, and Camryn Ronning, Ridge Patrick, Emma, David, Abigail, Benjamin and Lydia Hansen. Floyd is also survived by his stepdaughter, Janelle Chapman, stepsons David (& Marcia) Chapman and Mark Allen (& Vicky) Chapman. Step-grandchildren include Zachary, Dusty, Vince, and Allison Chapman.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Berneita Jean Shafer Hansen, son Douglas Hansen, and stepson Robert Chapman.
Floyd's legacy of compassion and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his
passing.
