IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn
Danielson
March 3, 1921 – April 20, 2023
While we are mourning the loss of you, others are rejoicing to meet you again.
Evelyn Lucille Danielson, 102, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023 in
Wichita, Ks, surrounded by family.
Evelyn was a devoted, caring, and loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
Born March 3rd, 1921 in Oneida, Ks., Evelyn was the youngest of six daughters
born to Ernest and Ruth (Weart) Potterf. All throughout her life, her sisters lovingly
referred to her as 'Babe.' As a freshman at Valley Center High School (Valley
Center, Ks), Evelyn played varsity basketball. She went on to graduate valedictorian
of her class and attended her class reunions until she was the only remaining
graduate of the Class of 1939.
On October 4, 1940 Evelyn married her high school sweetheart, James 'Bill'
Winters. She and Bill had three children together, Julie Winters, Robert 'Bob'
Winters, and Mary (Winters) Duckworth. She went on to marry Elmer Danielson
with whom she had one daughter, Norma 'Lynn' Danielson. Both generous and
tenacious, family was always the focus of Evelyn's intentions. She supported her
family working as a commercial baker for Certified Bakery until her retirement in
1986 at the age of 65, and she assisted with the care of her sisters until each of
their deaths. In her retirement, Evelyn loved to play bingo, visit the casino, solve
crossword puzzles, and watch game shows. Her home in Wichita was the site of
many happy gatherings where everyone was treated to a slice of her exquisitely
homemade lemon pound cake.
Evelyn is survived by her three children (aforementioned); two grandchildren,
Sherri (Duckworth) Doyon and Benjamin Duckworth; and five great-grandchildren,
Layla and Anna Doyon and Sierra, Brenton, and Darren Duckworth, who all
adored her.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Norma Lynn Danielson (Tampa, Fl), and
her sisters, Velma Ernestine Potterf (Oklahoma City, Ok), Mary Margaret 'Peggy'
Potterf (Augusta, Ks), Beulah May Ganahl (Wichita, Ks), Vida Catherine Potterf
(Kansas City, Ks), and Wilma Berniece Potterf (Oklahoma City, Ok).
