Obituary

Ernee Lou McGuire, 8 3 , passed away May 7, 2022 . Ernee Lou was a retired music teacher in Wichita School s . Preceded in death by parents Harold and Hazel (Schmidt) McGuire . She was born and grew up in Great Bend, Kansas . While there, she had Sant Vitas Dance, a disease of the nervous system at the age of eight . At about the same time, she contracted R he umatic fever . After she was well recovered, the family moved to Pawnee Rock, Kansas where at the age of nine , she had a light case of Polio which left her with no discernable damage.

In Pawnee Rock she flourished . She learned to play the trumpet in grade school band and marched in local parades . In high school, she took part in marching band, concert band, dance band, pep band and a soloist . She also loved basketball and other sports and took part while in high school . Ernee Lou stayed connected with friends there by attending many class reunion s . When she graduated from High school in 1957, she was the class's Salutatorian .

After high school, the family moved to Wichita, Kansa s . S he attended Wichita University where she majored in music and received her master's in music .

Ernee Lou's first job was a teaching job in Ha viland, Kansas . She enjoyed the students and the community . After leaving Haviland, she taught in Wichita and taught elementary school band music, serving at several grade schools throughout her 30 years of teaching .

Ernee Lou enjoyed traveling and found trips that could further her education by playing her trumpet. Two of her favorites were when she went with the Wichita State University to Europe and her trip to Connecticut where she played her trumpet with others from all over the United States .

Ernee Lou attended Southwest Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, and was active in the choir, a deacon and an Elder . She also sang in the Melodears Choral group and san g in the Wichita Choral . Music was her life, and she played her trumpet and sang for as long as her health would let her . She also played in the Senseney Band as well as the Linnwod Band, leading seniors in their favorite music choices . Those that kn e w Ernee Lou knows she is in Heaven helping and making sure the Angels are singing on tune.

Ernee Lou enjoyed her sister, Anna Marie McGuire-Meeks and her three adult children: Ms. Kathleen Manzaneras, Ms. Renee Martinez and Rev. Brit L. Groom, all of California.
