Edward John Thompson II, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, following a long illness. He was born on November 6, 1936, in Emporia, KS to Edward John and Lois Hartsell Thompson. Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, teacher, and pastor.

Ed worked for the Wichita Public Schools and retired after 35 years as a language arts teacher at Wichita Heights High School. He then became a United Methodist Pastor serving several rural Kansas communities before retiring back to Wichita for good.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sharon Davies McNeil Thompson; daughter, Katharine A. Thompson; sister, Janet L. Thompson Franklin; and brother Walt H. Thompson.

Survived by his son, William (Deborah) E. Thompson; grandchildren, Andrew J. (Elisa) Thompson, and Linnea R. (Dalton) Mellies; two great grandchildren, his sister, Nancy Wakely; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service to be held on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 10:00 AM at College Hill United Methodist in Wichita.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been set up for Ed with The United Methodist Open Door, P.O. Box 2756 Wichita, KS 67201-2756.
