IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna
Hancock
September 9, 1930 – November 10, 2020
Donna Hancock was born in the Wichita Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, September 9, 1930 and lived here most of her life. Her father was able to work her early life but moved home base several times. Donna's extended maternal family was very important during her early life, she would walk to her blind grandmother's home to try to sneak fresh baked rolls while they cooled. Her grandpa Smith would allow her to "get away with things" where as grandparents Sallee made her "sit still" and not touch anything in the house. Donna quit school after 8th grade and began full time employment at Bemis Bag Company until her marriage on February 9, 1950 to Charles W. Hancock. They bought a house when he began his career with the W.F.D. She always felt dumb, though she could replicate and usually improve any idea she saw, whether it was sewing or crafts. She was even a PTA president for grade school for several years and worked for extra money in South High's cafeteria for a few years and later was the manager of customer service at the Better Book Room. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hancock were active in their church, Bethel Assembly of God. They began a youth group, which continue for multiple years with 8 full time ministers. They built a house on Lake Pommed Tere in Missouri with a goal of retirement until their first grandchild's birth. Instead they moved to a larger home in south Wichita that would accommodate their larger family. Mrs. Hancock kept her husband busy with canning and other projects until his death in 2009. She had generally increasing dementia for the last years of her life.
