Dolly Madison Roller, 84, passed away peacefully January 27, 2010. Born to Ida Mae and Charles Burnett on February 23, 1925, in Red Lake, New Mexico. Her father passed away when she was just three years old at the age of 65, some interesting math there. She was the youngest of 13 children by fourteen years, four of her brothers died within one month, ranging from 4 years old to eleven. They all died from some sort of a fever or epidemic of the early 1900's.
Dolly is preceded in her death by her husband Joe T. Roller. Joe and Dolly were married for fifty plus years. They met in Portales, New Mexico and wed in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Joe was fresh out of the army; cocky, arrogant, self confident and all the qualities that make for a fine paratrooper. Joe was a member of the 325th Glider Infantry 82nd Airborne division. He was still remembering his government paid vacation at the Ardennes forest (Battle of the Bulge). We understand their courtship was as normal as all. Mom and Dad shared many hobbies together. They collected, fixed antique clocks, flew model airplanes and worked on classic old cars. Mom liked to go to the antique clock and car shows for the social aspects and sell some homemade peanut brittle. Daddy was an employee with several cities during their history and Mom was a stay at home mom. Although it would seem impossible, an argument was never witnessed between the two. Mom never made many social headlines, and one of her attempts to do so was a failure. In the early sixties, she thought she would have the beauty school make her hair look like the beehive on Jackie Kennedy. They must have got her "beehive" at ten to twelve inches total height. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite the look she wanted, or the way we wanted our mom to look. She made the comment that on the three block walk home, she got ten horn honks and five cat calls. Although Momma's journey has ended in one sense, her memory will last with fondness and love forever.
Dolly is survived by Joe David Roller (Phyllis), Glenn Roller, Jim Roller (Lydia), grandchildren Anna, David, Sarah, Jason and John and several great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held on Sunday, January 31.
