IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bobby
Guthrie
October 5, 1945 – October 16, 2021
Bobby Vern Guthrie was born to Doza and Vern Gurthrie in Wichita Kansas on October 1945. He had two
sisters that he had many adventures with. He attended Wichita West High School. He then married
Tenna Barber, the love of his life in 1964. Bobby and Tenna had known each other since grade school
then went on to date in high school. Shortly after their wedding he joined the National Guard and
voluntarily enlisted and went to Vietnam in 1967. He proudly served honorably and with distinction in
the Army. He received medals for expert riflery and the National Defense. He was honorably discharged
from the United States Army on July 8 th , 1969. Upon returning, he began his career as an over-the-road
truck driver and his wife joined him for 14 years before they both retired. He worked hard to provide a
comfortable life for his family. Bobby was a loving father to his four children Christina, Trina, Cheryl, and
Steven, whom he cherished. He was also a father figure to any who needed him. He mostly raised his
children in Wichita. Bobby was known best for his unfailing love and devotion to his wife of 55 years, his
goofy sense of humor and extraordinarily kind heart. He also was very devoted to his mother, Doza
whom he cared for in the later years of her life. He was an avid fisherman and his children grew up
learning how to bait their own hook and reel in a fish. He loved many things including camping, monster
movies, and doing any kind of activity with his family. In his younger years he loved fast cars and liked to
drag Douglas and was known to lose pink slips on occasion much to the dismay of his wife. In their
retirement, they enjoyed their RV, going to casinos and spending time with their grandchildren. On
October 16 th , 2021 he joined the love of his life after passing peacefully at home while surrounded by his
family. Bobby is survived by his sister Janet, his 4 children, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
His legacy of love and compassion will carry on.
