Betty Jean Ford Alspaw was born Sept. 11, 1938 in Perry, Oklahoma to Ervy Jerome Ford and Ella Hein Ford. She was the oldest of 5 children. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Marion, KS where she lived until graduating from high school. She moved to Emporia to study nursing and lived there until meeting and later marrying Ronald Alspaw on May 1, 1960. After marriage, they moved to Wichita. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul, and her sister Edith. Survivors include husband Ronald of Wichita, daughter Lisa Whittom (Dale) of Fortaleza, Brazil, Son Kevin (Christy) of Houston, 6 grandchildren, Logan, Nikki, Michael, Steven, Ben, and Nick and 5 great grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was very active in school activities when her children were growing up and later always loved having the grandkids over to their house. Betty worked for many years as a certified medical assistant for several doctors, eventually retiring from Wesley Family Practice in 2000. She loved her job and helping people. Betty was also a very talented craftsperson. Over her life time, she painted, did ceramics, sewed, and quilted. She also loved to read and could always be found reading or crafting in her spare time. Ronald and Betty were active members and Westside Christian Church and after the closing of Westside, at Riverlawn Christian Church.
