IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Todd
December 24, 1933 – April 23, 2023
Barbara is a native of San Diego, CA. She is the daughter of Doris and Raymond
Lemke and is survived by her younger sister Joan, who was a missionary nurse
with Wycliff Bible Translators. Barbara attended San Jose State University where
she received a bachelor's degree in microbiology. She then went to work for the
California Department of Public Health as a microbiologist. She met Richard in
the bay area, where he was a graduate student at the University of California at
Berkeley. They were both active with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. They
married in 1961. Shortly after marrying they moved to Wichita so Richard could
join the faculty of WSU and teach Ancient History. After moving to Wichita
Barbara worked at the health department as a microbiologist and later part-time
as a lab technician for an allergist. In the late 60's she and Richard became
members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and contributed in many ways to
the growth and leadership of the church. Some of her contributions included
teaching Circle leaders, teaching adult Sunday school classes, serving as an Elder,
serving on the counseling committee and helping to start Stephen Ministry at
Eastminster, helping start a quilting group and serving for a time as interim
Children's Ministry Director. Barbara loved entertaining and welcomed many
people and groups into their home including several international students who
lived with them. She had a heart for missions which was evident in her activities,
speech and giving. Barbara was always learning and had many interests including
a love for birds, quilting, cooking, travel, jazz and drum and bugle corps. There
was very little that did not interest her. She lived in Greece, Romania and Israel
and visited many more countries. Barbara was always very concerned for others.
Even near the end of her life she seemed more concerned for others than for
herself. We will miss this precious servant of God who is an example to us as a life
well lived. Barbara is survived by Richard, son Geoffrey, daughter Alison Guerra,
Alison's children, Caroline and William, and Barbara's sister, Joan Lemke-Oien.
We have set up a memorial with one of Barbara's favorite organizations, Mission
Aviation Fellowship. If you would like to make a gift to them in her memory you
can do it online at www.maf.org or send it to Mission Aviation Fellowship, P.O.
