IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Owens
August 1, 1937 – April 13, 2024
On Saturday morning, April 13th, my Mother lost her short battle with Breast Cancer. While under the care of the Angels at Harry Hynes Hospice, the Lord brought her home for her Heavenly reward. She is now in the presence of The Lord and among many family members and friends that have been patiently waiting.
Mom was born in Joplin, Missouri on August 1st, 1937. Around 1943, her family moved to Wichita Kansas and lived in a newly developed housing area called Planeview. The family remained there until moving to South Meridian in Wichita, around 1954, where her parents spent the remainder of their lives and raised a total of eight children. Mom graduated from Wichita West High School in 1955, the third graduating class of this relatively new school. Mom met the love of her life and was married to Bill Owens on November 29th, 1957. They soon moved into the back of his parents' house on south Fern and began their new life. Although the house today does not resemble its appearance from 1957, the south Fern house has remained their residence to this day. While residing there, she helped raise three children along with multiple dogs.
My parents spent a lot of their younger days enjoying the journey provided for them and not focused on a destination. They did a lot of traveling, with and without their children. Several trips abroad visiting other countries, multiple motorcycle trips seeing different states and lots of local weekend camping at nearby lakes. Without any doubt, the most influential location for many members of our family has been our Colorado vacation. Starting early in Dad's childhood with his parents, it has always been a staple for us to go to when needing to make sense of life and soak in the beauty that our Lord has created for us.This tradition carries on today with my children and never gets old for any of us. Mom was happiest when she was camping in the mountains with her family.
In addition to being a very supportive wife, a wonderful mother and a peacemaker among the family, Mom spent a number of years being the church secretary at the church that our family has called home for many years, West Side Church of God. She was very involved in her church and until her recent illness, has missed very few days attending church. She has been a member of the Wichita Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary for many years. One of her titles she was known for was "The Avon Lady". She sold Avon for 40 years. Her most memorable roles without a doubt have been Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She sure shined as bright as any star in those positions.
Mom is the eldest of all her siblings and the first to break the circle. She is survived by her Husband: Bill Owens, Children: Bilinda Owens, Brian Owens (Jonette), and Brent Owens (Joneva). 5 Grandchildren: Daniel Owens, Nicole Owens, Bryce Owens, Spencer Owens and Noah Owens. 3 Great grandchildren: Robin, Ryan and RJ. Siblings: Richard Carr (Bea), Keith Carr (Janet), Gary Carr (Janelle), Norman Carr (Lois), Sandra Carr, LouAnn Helvie (Phil) and Curtis Carr (Rebecca). Multiple Nieces and Nephews and many other family members and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by both of her parents: Mae and Merle Carr and her Grandson: Logan Owens.
She is now in a place where there is no more pain or tears. She is receiving a gift for her faithfulness to the Lord and to her family. She is having a wonderful reunion with all that preceded her. We can all rest a little easier now on earth because there is one additional angel keeping us safe.
